I went out the other day Mass Effect Legendary Edition -reprinting one of the most beloved by the people of the RPG series. Universal recognition, however, does not apply to the final of the trilogy: ending Mass Effect 3 The audience met not just coolly, but with a real scandal. The developers even had to hurry in a hurry to make an expanded version of the denouement-someone was satisfied with her, someone is not. But, in my opinion, the culmination of Mass Effect 3 turned out so unsuccessful that with all the desire it would not have been possible to save. Why hundreds of thousands of players deservedly hate her? Now we’ll figure it out – with spoilers , Of course.
First of all, it is worth remembering what the Mass Effect series said. The plot itself is extremely simple: in a nutshell it can be described as "ancient evil has awakened". The protagonist, captain Shepard, and his allies https://kaiser-slots-casino.co.uk/ first confront the universal threat, and subsequently become a face of galactic resistance and, most likely, save the world. In this situation, the fuel for intrigue is questions about the origin of ancient evil: how did it come from, what it wants, what is its weakness. And an intelligent ending would give answers to these questions with the help of Chekhov rifles hung in advance on the walls, organically fit into the context of Shepard's travels.
Mass Effect fell in love with the audience primarily thanks to a rather wide expanse for playing a role in the company of memorable characters. Therefore, it would be logical if the ending showed how the actions of the protagonist influenced his associates and the world as a whole. This was done, for example, a couple of years before ME3 Fallout: New Vegas: Slide show, of course, is hardly drawn to the perfect ending, but the game at least did not forget those whom the hero met in his path.
Another traditionally strong side of Mass Effect was an ENT. Seria initially positioned itself as a rather firm science fiction, and the original game has already provided a detailed explanation of all the phenomena of its setting. No magic, everything is extremely serious, everything has a rational cause and investigation.
The ending of Mass Effect 3 seems to forget about all this: the third part is almost entirely devoted to the collection of parts of the artifact called the mountain. The previous race, which fell by the hands of ancient evil, almost managed to complete it, and everyone suggests that McGaffin will allow to win over the almighty reapers-however, no one, in general, understands how the mountain works. The previous parts did not mention anything like this: the leaps-bacillus necessary for the climax simply appeared at the right time according to the pike order.
The decisions made by Shepard throughout all three games mainly affect only the forces of the United Galaxy forces, which open access to different options for the endings. That is, it cannot be said that the player’s actions do not matter at all in the finale, but their influence in most cases comes down to abstract numbers. Moreover, in the original MA3, to the Legendary Edition, without participating in the multiplayer, these figures were also divided in two: so the developers were unobtrusively hinted that cooperative shooting matches are no less important than the totality of all your previous acts.
As a result, with a low indicator of forces, the player guaranteed to receive a bad ending: the ancient evil was defeated, but the triumph was given at a high price, let the credits. The motivation of the reapers was explained by anymore, and the history of their origin was generally taken into a separate DLC.
And with a high indicator … the game offered about the same. Only now the player was offered a choice between a bad finale, normal and “true”. Moreover, in all three, literally the same frames flash, differing only in color. The saga, which lasted six and a half years, ended with a primitive traffic light, and about what happened to his favorite characters – not a word. And before it objected that BioWare I corrected my mistake for free DLC, ask yourself: how such a raw finale generally reached the release version of the game? Why was he approved by the founders of the studio (who escaped from Gamdev shortly after Fiasco), the head of the development of Casey Hudson, producers from EA? Did it really seem to them all that the Magnum Opus BioWare should end?
As for DLC Extended Cut, then it did not particularly save the script: the authors only expanded humiliatingly short videos from the original to a more or less decent size and added a little content. They never told us what the characters did at the end of the war, but at least showed them in static pictures: here they are, relatives, in a peaceful environment. True, all the pictures are again the same – and this despite the fact that each ending, in theory, leads to a fundamentally different way of life in the galaxy. What is it like to live in a world where Shepard-Superno controls the once hostile reapers? How the merger of organic and synthetic creatures has changed the world? There is no answer – the expanded finale only emphasized that the authors themselves did not really understand what they did.

The final Mass Effect 3 is disappointed not only by content, but also by the presentation: it almost entirely consists of nonsense and contradictions to itself. The citadel seems to be the most important tactical resource for the Reapers, but for some reason they parked the space station in the earth's orbit and installed an elevator in the center of London, leading right inside. The entrance to the elevator is protected by the harbinger, the main reaper, and several simple enemies. But instead of arranging a serious battle with an equally serious adversary, the victory over which would open the hero to the citadel, the developers show Kittsen, where the threatening cyborg is very lazy in a laser in slowly running men. So lazily that they in the process organize the evacuation of the wounded – right under the nose of the reap, which does not blow in the mustache.
Then Shepard approaches the treasured elevator. The harbinger shoots him and … From that moment on, the narrative becomes so insane that many fans began to build theories that everything further is the fruit of the hero’s imagination. Shepard is experiencing a direct hit of the laser and, limping, moves forward: the last barrier on the way to the end is the most ordinary enemy, a looter with energy.

In the citadel of Shepard, his ally, Admiral Anderson and antagonist Ghost meet his ally. The latter is an ordinary person who has fallen under the influence of the reapers, but he has magical forces from somewhere: he subjugates Shepard and makes him shoot Anderson. All the plausibility of the setting and elaboration of Laura instantly die for the sake of cheap drama.
Shepard defeats the ghost – either overcoming his control, or convincing him that his reapers climbed into his head. It is curious that Anderson convinces Shepard of the fidelity of the red ending, while the ghost is a follow -up of the blue. And Shepard, actively disputing the ghost point of view, can literally follow his way after five minutes.

Further, Shepard is magically transferred to the galaxy control panel, which the catalyst is in charge of – in fact, the head of the Reaper. He appears in front of the hero in the form of a boy killed at the beginning of the game – an nameless NPC, which is not interesting to anyone. It’s really difficult to believe that this is not a feverish nonsense of Shepard, who is on the verge of death, but reality. Especially when the boy begins to explain the causes of the regular genocide of the developed rushes: it turns out that organics always create synthetics, and they always rebel against their creators and kill them. And in order to prevent this tragedy, it is necessary to prudently destroy everyone in order to create a world between the two forms of life through the war. Logical.
Nevertheless, the catalyst separately emphasizes that the reapers do not just eradicate biological species, but absorb them and make them part of their own genome. However, this explanation of the extended egg is not worth it: the reapers are completely devoid of individuality, each of them is part of the collective mind of the hive. If any knowledge is accumulated inside them, then they are not suitable for anything, and the harvest is actually meaningless.
In the same way, there is no sense in the fact that the catalyst suddenly changed his mind to exterminate all living things. According to him, this happened for two reasons. Firstly, the horn was incorporated with him (which no one prevented him from doing this), and secondly, organicus came to him, although Shepard brought a completely out-of-line place to the Galaxy control panic, and Anderson and a ghost fell into the citadel. Shepard did not overcome any serious barriers on the way to the catalyst, but he still decided, as a reward for the great exploits of the captain to cancel genocide, which lasted millions of years.
Further, the space child offers three new options for solving the eternal problem of organics and synthetics. Red – destroy all synthetics – obviously short -term: organics will soon create new robots, which, as the catalyst is convinced, will overdo it all. I wonder why this option is generally under consideration if it leads to the same disaster. Blue – catalyst invites Shepard to take his place and manage his reapers. But the green option, the synthesis, according to the catalyst itself, is perfect and inevitable. However, he had never worked before, because the organics were "not ready". What has changed now? Doesn't matter. How it should work at all? We will not recognize. “This is not what can be imposed by force,” says the catalyst, allowing Shepard to impose his own solution to the whole galaxy. Paphos speeches sound terribly unconvincing and, most importantly, do not correlate in any way with the content of the entire series. Instead of a clear final – three abstract methods of self -sacrifice in vacuum.
The ending of Mass Effect 3 is a full disaster both in idea and in execution. She ignores everything that made Mass Effect Great. She reduces the previous decisions of Shepard to insignificant numbers, leaving them without a loud final chord. Therefore, I'm not going to play Legendary Edition. Unfortunately, the story of Shepard is a futile path to nowhere.
